Malyutin is known as a wonderful portraitist, who created a gallery of works that captured contemporaries. The main thing for him was to catch the essence of the character of the model. For portraits, he, as a rule, chose pastel technique. But ready -made pastel pencils did not satisfy him, and he made them himself, rubbing the factory pastel with whitewash or chalk and rolling back in pencils. The portrait of the daughter of the artist Vera Sergeyevna Malyutina is also executed in the technique of the pastel.
