In the Russian fine art of the turn of the XIX – XX centuries, the image of Ivan the Terrible continued to be one of the most popular. However, his interpretation underwent well -known changes in accordance with the new artistic aesthetics, in which folklore ideas about the life of the Russian king were reflected. In the picture of Alexandrov, Ivan the Terrible appears almost an epic hero and a courageous, wise commander, by the wave of the hand of which the mighty regiments of Russian soldiers are ready to oppose the enemy.
