The artist is Repin
The next step of Repin in the direction of the picturesque generalization of the image was a work dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Russia’s victory over the army of Napoleon. Figures, objects and even buildings, as it were, dissolve in the red-brown range of fire and smoke of the burning city. The captured scene near the walls of the Moscow Kremlin turns into a phantasmagoria, where some characters are difficult to distinguish – a falling man in red clothes, a clergyman with an illuminated face, a walking soldier and a screaming woman in the near future. In this work, the artist intuitively anticipated the onset of the dramatic events of the First World War.
