The artist’s work was formed in Moscow in an atmosphere of symbolist searches „end of the century “. Since the 1890s, he wrote the impressionistic landscapes of Crimea, and later Venice, marked by the sophisticated musicality of the color scheme. Some of them, where reality becomes like shaky dreams, equally belongs to both impressionism and symbolism.
